Physiological and Biochemical Behaviours and Antioxidant Response of Helianthus annuus under Lanthanum and Cerium Stress

The continuous progress of global manufacturing and anthropogenic activities has resulted in excessive environmental metallic pollution, particularly with rare earth elements (REEs) which have become a prevalent issue concern due to their high toxicity widespread existence. REEs-contaminated soils could ruin agriculture by inducing plant physiology disturbances various crops that are considered the principal link human food chain. main purpose present work is assess phytotoxicity two light REEs, lanthanum (La) cerium (Ce), Helianthus annuus after 14 days exposure different concentrations La Ce (0, 1, 2.5, 5, 10 µM). Plants showed variations shoot root lengths at end trial period. accumulation photosynthetic pigments, such as chlorophylls carotenoids, well efficiency, non-photochemical quenching, photosynthetically active radiation, electron transport rate, increased REE treatments. Hydrogen peroxide significantly all applied Ce. A significant increase malondialdehyde content was noticed only when plants were exposed 2.5 µM Results also demonstrated induced an activity superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase (only highest concentration decreased activity). plants, mainly roots. effective resistance behaviour facing La- Ce-induced stresses.
